Method

AIB had been identified in numerous areas within the college.

Once the enclosures had been built and the area was safely cordoned off, the AIB was suppressed with a solution of fibre surfactant, applied by low pressure hand pump.

When satisfied that the suppressant has sufficiently dampened down any residual dust or debris and that any AIB had sufficient time to penetrate fully, the operatives proceeded to remove tiles around the perimeter, sealing any unseen openings as they progressed.

This process was repeated, removing all identified AIB tiles and placing them into waste sacks.

Once the ceiling was removed, any other visible AIB was collected, wrapped and sealed before being disposed of into waste sacks

Once all visible AIB tiles were removed, any voids were accessed and inspected for debris or residual material which were removed as part of the decontamination process.

Where the ceiling tiles had been screwed or nailed into timber it was necessary to drill out these holes using a low-speed battery operated drill with an oversized drill bit, combined with shadow vacuuming. The timber frames were also suppressed, and wire brushed whilst using shadow vacuum.

Where encapsulation was required, ceiling tiles were lifted out, vacuumed and set aside for reinstatement on completion of works.

The timber was vacuumed with a brush attachment. Surfactant was applied by low pressure hand pumped atomiser to the bottom face of the timber framework and 2 No. coats of white ET150 was applied by radiator rollers. The area was then cleaned as required with H-type vacuums.

Once all of the ACM’s had been safely removed or encapsulated, we reinsulated some of the pipework throughout the music room and Sanders Block using Rockwool class O Foil faced insulation.
